On the opposite end of the spectrum, many designers
looked to the past for inspiration this season and few
collections were short of some references to the lady of
the fifties and the dolly birds of the sixties.

shocked fans
this season with a more pared down collection of
wearable separates. Despite this change Michael did not
disappoint, and by looking just a little deeper, the edge in
this experimental collection can still be spotted. Inspired
by vintage couture and the destruction of worn out
clothes, Michael van der Ham subtly contrasted fabrics
and layering to create an intriguing presentation of
designs. The worn out vintage feel was portrayed through
uneven hems and slits in the clothing to represent moth
eaten holes. These slits in woollen pieces revealed a
texture clash of leathers, satin underlays or in other
cases a display of floral prints. The muted palette of dark
forest greens and plums complimented the theme. The
fabulous mixing of labour intensive embellished jacquard
trousers in contrast to velvet applique and abstract
patterns made for a more refined yet highly powerful
and edgy collection from van der Ham.
