The unashamedly theoretical and conceptually driven
Marios Schwab
won the hearts of critics once again
with his spell-binding collection. Drawing inspiration from
calligrams which are visual presentations of poetry, Schwab
teamed up with Tunisian artist Nja Mahdaoui who created
calligrams to decorate the designs which conveyed a gothic
fairy-tale.
The figure hugging designs played with long and short
proportions, accentuating the curves of the female body.
The contrast of lace and leather and dark auburns, blacks
and pale pinks conveyed a darker side to this romantic
collection, the use of shattered glass in the calligrams further
enhanced this theme. The ethereal dresses were adorned
with Swarovski crystals and the slim cut velvet finale dresses
with ornate gold plate design stood out for their glamorous
wearability and red carpet potential.
