Fashion’s answer to rock ‘n’ roll,
PPQ
offered an autumn/winter
alternative for the daring in a 1950s Vintage Americana inspired
collection. Best known as the founders of the skinny jean, Amy
Molyneaux and Percy Parker took a cool twist on the 1950s
Teddy girl by mixing a colourful palette with black in a classic
yet edgy collection. From the sharp cut A-line coats, beehive hair,
evening gowns and elbow length gloves through to the graffiti
print puff ball dresses, PPQ took us on a vintage tour from the
lady of the 1950s through to the party girl of the 1980s.With
neoprene cat suits, slits and low cut necklines, PPQ returned to
their roots of clothing the fun loving party girl and we have no
doubts that this highly desirable collection will go straight from
the catwalk and into the hands of celebrity clientele.
Cult couturier designer
Ziad Ghanem
is renowned
for ‘putting on quite the show’ so it was no surprise
that the queue for his runway show in Freemasons’
Hall ran the length of two whole streets. As one of the
most highly sought-after off-schedule offerings, Ghanem
did not disappoint with his collection ‘Candy…Darling?’ inspired by 1950s film
An
American in Paris.
A lover of vintage clothing, Ghanem travels far and wide to find those one-off special
items worthy of a place in his collections, which merge old haute couture craftsmanship
with modern silhouettes. Not one for sticking by a single trend, Ghanem put all his
eggs in the basket for this collection which offered everything any eccentric fashion
lover could desire from divine patterns, exquisite fabrics bold colours, bows, statement
evening gowns, cocktail dresses, sharp cut suits, avant-garde make-up, burlesque dancing
and even some cross dressing. Using real people as models, Ghanem emphasised the
human element of style. This combined with an eighties mixtape with all the right and
wrong songs made for a theatrical performance, which left audiences in high spirits.
