mature and driven woman. A key quality
for any model is the ability to handle
criticism and rejection. After being told
running made her legs too muscular, Holly
has responded to criticism positively
through dieting and starting a new fitness
regime,“When several agents from abroad
came to visit The Model Team I was asked
several times if I exercised a lot because
my legs were quite muscular. I do not mind
being criticised, I live in a family of three
sisters and it is something I am used to. I
take it in and use it in a constructive way.
I never get upset by it or compare myself
to other models because the moment you
start to compare yourself is the moment
that you fall apart.”
Now, Holly does Pilates instead of
running and diets healthily alongside
her mother. Recognising the dangers
of extreme dieting, particularly for self-
conscious models, Holly is determined to
stay fit and healthy, “Research is important
when it comes to dieting sensibly because
you do not want to starve yourself and
lose out in important nutrients. It is good
to have someone to help support you. I
have been dieting with my mum which is
good because she makes sure I stay healthy.
Exercise is also hugely important. I have
started doing Pilates, which is fantastic as
it helps me lose weight but also keeps me
nicely toned.”
Models not only need to commit
emotionally to their career by devoting
time towards it but also have to commit
physically through maintaining a toned
body and suitable weight. As a young
model with the demand of full time
education, Holly’s life involves a careful
balancing act, but with strong will power
and determination the seventeen-year-old
prioritises carefully, “I would never do a
shoot the day before an exam. I would say
I have been able to handle both modelling
and school so far. I suppose managing both
depends on who you are, how busy you
want to be and how many sacrifices you
are willing to make.”
With a top international agency carefully
watching Holly’s every move, it seems a
bright future lies ahead for the young and
passionate model.With a grounded nature
and a strong knowledge of the industry,
Holly’s ambitions and desires are within
her grasp: “I have always wanted to be a
model and pursue a career in fashion. I
would like to take a gap year once I have
left school so I can continue modelling and
try to approach agencies both in London
and abroad. If modelling does not work
out then I will still find a way to work in
another area the fashion industry.”
