The Samurai inspired headwear, eerie
Eastern music, ballet dance performances,
regal red and gold satin dresses and cat
suits followed by black veiled outfits
added a darker undertone to Hogg’s
usual risqué designs. Indeed, to me, the
collection told a historical story about the
fall of Monarchist rule and proved Hogg
has more insight than she has previously
been given credit for.
With gold featuring as a key colour
for autumn/winter 2013 several other
designers channelled a regal theme in
their collections, one of which being the
precise
Osman
Yousefzada. In his stark
and colourless collection inspired by
a trip to Narnia, Osman provided a
selection of well-tailored intricate dresses
fit for a Snow Queen. The puff sleeves,
shawl-like collars and shimmering dresses
matched with wool clutches certainly
embraced the theme. Gold embroidery
and rich brocades added regal elegance
whilst sheer blouses, sharp asymmetric
cuts and metallics reflected the dark edge
to this fairy-tale collection.
