Pacific Rim sees Idris Elba leave The Wire far behind as
he takes on a potential apocalypse in this blockbuster
adventure. The monstrous Kaiju emerge from the sea to
start a war with humanity that will cost millions of lives and
last for years. To fight back, the Jaeger robots are developed,
huge automatons that are controlled by two pilots thanks to
a neural mind link. After years of fighting, and on the verge
of complete defeat, it’s left up to two highly unlikely potential
heroes to use an obsolete version of the robots to fight back.
The not so dynamic duo is former pilot Raleigh Becket
(Charlie Hunnam) and rookie trainee Mako Mori (Rinko
Kikuchi), and it seems the fate of the world and humanity is in
their rather shaky hands. With odds that are most definitely in
the David versus Goliath scheme of things, there have been less
likely heroes but probably not many. However as director and
co-writer (Pan’s Labyrinth, Blade II, Hellboy)
shows, even these odds are not completely decided.
