THE INN AT SPANISH

BAY PEBBLE BEACH

J

drive from

Monterey, the

Inn at Spanish

Bay sits in an

idyllic

spot

between

Del

Monte Forest

and the Pacific, fronted by a Scottish-

style links golf course and breathtaking

coastline. The style is contemporary and

comfortably elegant, and the guestrooms

have views of pine forest, green fairways

or the ocean. The 22,000 square foot

Spa at Pebble Beach has a wide range of

services on offer, incorporating the healing

properties of plants, herbs and minerals

indigenous to the Monterey Peninsula.

EATING

There are plenty of options on the resort,

including North-Italian flavours at Peppoli,

or Hawaiian fusion at Ray’s. Nearby sister

resort The Lodge at Pebble Beach has

French and Seafood restaurants as well as

a classic American Tavern.

THINGS TO DO

The Inn at Spanish Bay is on the famous

17 Mile Drive, with marked stopping

points to gaze at amazing scenery and

wildlife. Nearby Carmel have a fantastic

sandy beach, and great little shops and

restaurants. A trip to Pebble Beach would

be incomplete without some time spent

on the world famous golf courses.

T

his ele

gant Victorian inn is less

like a hotel, more like staying in a

grand old house owned by a distant

relative, surrounded by oak trees, fountains

and flower filled gardens. Brimming with

gracious English hospitality and a touch

of the whimsical, the Cheshire Cat Inn

has a subtle Alice in Wonderland theme

running through it. The Main

House has six guestrooms, and

elegant sitting and dining rooms.

The Eberle House next door

has a further six bedrooms and

a spacious communal sitting

room and kitchen. The Coach

House has two luxury suites –

Tweedledum and Tweedledee of course!

For families there are also four self

contained cottages across the street from

the main Inn. We love the Eberle Suite, with

its huge bubbling hot tub in the bedroom.

Breakfast sets you up for the day, with

a range of courses including freshly baked

warm scones, and varied dishes such as

Mexican frittata and poached pear. In the

early evening wine and hors d’oeuvres are

served every day, giving you a chance to

meet your hosts and fellow guests.

CHESHIRE CAT INN SANTA BARBARA

balconies or decks are the perfect spot to

catch the spectacular sunsets over the blue

Pacific Ocean. The Inn prides itself on a

welcoming and professional service, and this

is apparent throughout your stay. There are

fresh flowers in rooms and bathrooms, and a

delicious fresh baked breakfast. The extras are

great – hors d’oeuvres, wine and coffee are

served in the late afternoon, and then when

you get back from dinner there’s a splendid

array of puddings and treats to tuck into.

The Inn is situated in

a quiet, leafy residential

area of Santa Barbara,

walking distance from

the great restaurants

on State Street. Santa Barbara is a melting

pot of southern and northern California,

combining the art and culture of a big city

with the beauty and hospitality of a small

beach town.

EATING

There are some great restaurants within

walking distance of the Inn, including Olio

e Limone – an upscale Italian with a menu

of mouth-watering dishes laden with

flavour.

THINGS TO DO

Wine lovers should take a

tour of the UrbanWineTrail in

downtown Santa Barbara. You

can try a variety of watersports

watching, surfing, or just relax

on the beach!
