Drawing inspiration from the ‘sophisticated,
effortless, sometimes androgynous’ style of 1960s
actress Charlotte Rampling,
DAKS
presented yet
another powerful collection. The crown jewel of
British fashion innovation, DAKS have set the tone
for UK fashion from 1984 to the present day, and
this collection was no exception.
In her fourth offering for DAKS, former Donna
Karan creative Sheila McKain-Ward delivered a
collection which pleased both traditionalists and
contemporaries. Clever pattern cutting played
on traditional shapes through layering, folding
and draping. In tribute to Rampling a dichotomy
between the feminine and masculine was shown in
the pairing of fluid skirts and cropped jackets. The
famous house check was given a contemporary
feel in contrast to mohair, suede and flannel and a
classic autumnal palette.
With a penchant for timeless British style,
Jasper
Conran
celebrated the 1960s in a bright and
playful autumn/winter collection. The classic dolly
bird shift dresses were matched with patent
shoes and cloche hats, which completed the cute
look. Opening with dark autumnal hues, Conran
impressed audiences with the progression into
summer brights with full outfits in tangerine, red
and Pepto-Bismol pink. Breaking the matching
fashion rule, Conran’s fluid presentation of
