Y
ou may or may not be familiar with Philippe Starck, the
French product designer and architect who, as well as
being an interior designer, also mass-produced consumer
goods, such as toothbrushes, chairs and even houses. Lately he
has been designing a series of multi-source, wireless stereo
speaker towers and the latest one to hit the gadget radar is the
Parrot Zikmu Solo. The latest model virtually recreates a stereo
music system on a single speaker with a total power of 100W. It
offers an optimal stereo input thanks to the three loudspeakers
located on the upper part of the Zikmu Solo, with two HARP
(HighAspect Ratio Panel) drivers diffusing the sound on the right
and/or left side of the tower and one central BMR (Balanced Modal
Radiator) driver diffusing the sound to the front and the back of the
speaker.
To achieve a pure and perfectly balanced sound, the Sound Flex, a
proprietary algorithmic processor is added to the system. This amazing
component has the capacity to adjust the audio setting of Parrot
Zikmu Solo according to the size of the room and the position of
the speaker in the room, thus reproducing the stereo sound system
of a classic two-speaker configuration. In the bottom part of the
speaker, the Parrot Zikmu Solo dissimulates a powerful
Neodymium woofer that projects the music toward the
floor before it bounces into the room at 360 degrees.
As well as full connectivity with Bluetooth,Wi-Fi andNFC
wireless technologies, it also provides a line-in input that
is both analogue and optical digital allowing connection
to any source such as TV, stereo and amplifier, and also
integrated Ethernet port that enables the extension
of the home network to areas not covered by Wi-Fi.
Users can send or share preferred music stored on PC,
Mac or Tablet, or network drives via UPnP and DLNA
protocols by connecting the speakers to aWi-Fi router.
With an iPhone and iPod dock, Parrot Zikmu Solo also
enables listening to music while charging the devices.
Parrot Zikmu Solo is available from Harrods,
Selfridges, The Conran Shop and Amazon, and on
