bitecatwalk FASHION WEEK LONDON Spring/Summer 2025 T he ‘Mai’s Blossoms’ collection was an emotional tribute, a legacy celebration, and a deeply personal letter to Chet Lo’s late mother, Mai-Wah Cheung. Hosted during London Fashion Week, the show transcended trends and provided a nar- rative through craftsmanship. It unfolded as a dialogue between strength and softness, past and present, structure and surrender. Lo’s inspiration stemmed from his moth- er’s remarkable journey as one of the first women in computer science, who later be- came a media executive, artist, and ed- ucator. As a result, each look told a part of that story. Architectural silhouettes re- imagined office wear staples, presenting sharp tailoring, high collars, and defined shoulders but softened with tactile fab- rics and flowing contours. The juxtaposition creates a wardrobe for a woman who commands presence. Key motifs included a ‘glitch’ digital print woven into tailored jackets and pleated skirts—an ingenious reference to Cheung’s early work in technology, serving as a metaphor for the invisible fractures that define human progress. In contrast, fruit motifs added play- fulness and colour, referencing his mother’s curiosity and evolution as a painter. The colour palette evolved deliberately, with pieces grounded in deep blues, dark plums, and muted metallics, gradually giving way to soft neu- trals and blush tones. This progression echoed a life transitioning from corporate command to creative freedom. Typically known for the spiky, high-impact textures, Lo dialled back the theatrics in favour of nuanced emotion. The fabrics were richly layered yet breathable, suggesting protection and vulnerability. Some pieces floated down the runway as if the mod- els were walking through memories. The final looks of delicate, painterly gowns with barely-there texture felt like a soft exhale. They were not bold statements but invitations to reflect, remember and reconnect with the people and memories that shape us. ‘Mai’s Blossoms’ is a masterclass in personal storytelling through fashion. In honouring his mother, Chet Lo respects every woman whose strength lies in what she has endured and who she has become. www.chetlo.com CHET LO
