bitecatwalk MARK FAST A fter becoming renowned in the fashion community for his knitted expertise, Mark Fast turned his eye toward design. In this ‘Galaxy’ collection, the designer played with being touched by the intergalactic while remaining tethered to the urban landscape around him. He produced a dialogue between him and the audience, asking them what a trendsetter means. What would happen if a celestial being put their hand on the pulse of human streetwear? The answer is a series of layered looks which (some- times) hide intricate alienisms. The designer show- cased outerwear throughout the collection, taking tra- ditional fabrics like denim into new spaces. Inspired by architect Joe Colombo, Fast’s designs were round- ed, extrapolating current fashion trends with original knitted pieces and structured fringe dresses. As the man heralded for inventing the ‘future environment’, you could see Joe Colombo’s legacy influence in the looks crafted from weather-resistant materials. His designs centred around shirts with colourful urban artwork, while others played with bright colour blocking and sleek cutouts. Most notable was a series of looks with long denim trousers ending as pointed boots. Combining two separate clothing into one garment (with matching gloves) perfectly exemplified Fast’s goal of taking modern fashion to the stars. Ce- lestial-thinking, these trouser-boot creations added a subtle foreign eye to the streetwear and left a fantas- tical air around the collection despite some garments lacking an outer space edge. https://markfast.com FASHION WEEK LONDON Autumn/Winter 2024
