The Bite Magazine - Autumn/Winter 2024 - Issue 36
bitecatwalk FASHION WEEK LONDON Autumn/Winter 2024 EDWARD CRUTCHLEY W hen surrounded by delicate stained-glass windows and intricately carved wooden panelling, it’s easy to be transported into the world of Edward Crutchley’s Autumn-Winter collection. London Fashion Week is reminded that the designer vehemently upholds their title as artist and designer. In this collection, Crutchley rejects the concept of commercial fashion design so that every piece feels more like an ornament than wearable cou- ture. While there were some exceptions, this collec- tion was a love letter from out-of-the-box creativity, where the designs feel like a real-life caricature. This feeling struck me when a burgundy, black, and white mermaid dress walked the runway. It was dec- orated in latex frills resembling a tailored blazer; the look hid complex details that were impossible to take in all at once. Surrounded by a stream of large shoul- der pads and extremist silhouettes, the figure-hug- ging gown was the perfect opposition to a sea of imposing designs. The fabric patterns may have been reminiscent of the Tudors, but Crutchley’s collection is a modern protest to consumer goods that lack the beauty of creativity and individualism. http://www.edwardcrutchley.com
