The Bite Magazine - Autumn/Winter 2023 - Issue 34

bitecatwalk D rawing inspiration from her Grecian roots, designer Dimitra Petsa created a mytholog- ically focused line in honour of the goddess Persephone. As Hades’s wife, Persephone was the queen of the underworld, but she was also the daugh- ter of Demeter, the goddess of spring, fertility, growth and love. Petsa, therefore, had ample resources to generate her looks this season. The runway show was presented in a pitch-black setting at the Old Selfridg- es Hotel, with the models illuminated as if walking down a murky river to symbolise the River Styx and the journey we all must take between the living and dead, light and dark. The lovely and diverse range of models in all man- ners of impregnation walked in her signature draped wet-look clingy dresses. She also emphasised various cage-like bonings around the plump baby bumps of those further along. While I respect and very much understand the inspiration and meaning behind this duality of life and death, spring and winter, dark and light, I feel the collection was a bit disjointed. The Grecian toga-like draping of beautiful, saturated fab- rics in a pomegranate, plum and cranberry colour palette flowed together. The stiff denim, leather and velvet pieces seemed out of place as if two different generations were trying to dress for a party with what they each felt was appropriate: traditional vs trendy. https://dipetsa.com DI PETSA “ I am a Goddess of Life ,” Perse- phone said. “ A Queen of Death .” - Scarlett St. Clair.
