The Bite Magazine - Autumn/Winter 2022 - Issue 32
bitefilms Creed III I n Creed II, Adonis Creed saw off competition from Russian boxer Viktor Drago, the son of his trainer Rocky Balboa’s former boxing opponent Ivan Drago. In 1985, Ivan killed Adonis’ father, Apollo, in a tragic match that stunned the world. The current champion wants to prove he can surpass his father’s battle to retain their honours but is almost battered to a pulp in the first showdown with Viktor, trying to defend his title. After recovering, he readies himself more efficiently and defeats the aggressor. Creed III' s sequel sees the champion still dominating the boxing world, thriving in his career and family life. “I spent the last sev- en years of my life living out my wildest dreams. Bianca, Rocky, my dad; this is built on their shoulders.” When Damian, a child- hood friend and former boxing prodigy, resurfaces after serving time in prison, he’s eager to prove he deserves a shot in the ring. However, during a sparring session, he is overly aggressive and the coach, Tony, warns Adonis about his behaviour. Once friends, it turns into a 'there's no enemy like the past' sce- nario and an animous challenge. As Adonis faces Damien in the ring, his coach tells him, “I need you to let go of your fear. Let go of the guilt. Let go of whatever was and walk into what is.” Michael B Jordan, who makes his directorial debut, reprises his role as Adonis with Tessa Thompson as Bianca and Jonathan Majors joining the cast as Damian Anderson.
