O ver a decade since the events of James Cameron’s blockbuster 2009 Avatar , the award-winning direc- tor returns with the sequel, Avatar: The Way of Water . Since then, Jake Sully and Neytiri have formed a family of three biological and two adopted children. They enjoy a tranquil life, exploring the marine life around them. However, their peaceful ambience is interrupted by an ancient threat leading them to fight a brutal war against the humans they call the sky people. After their land is torn apart and they are displaced from their home, Sully and his family flee to the Metkayina clan’s water world for help. Tonowari, the leader, tells Sully, “We cannot let you bring war here,” but reluc- tantly provides sanctuary. Some of the younger clan members see them as outcasts resulting in the couple’s second oldest child, Lo’ak, getting into a fight. He later declares, “The way of water connects all things, before birth and after death.” Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Stephen Lang, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Giovanni Ribisi, Dileep Rao and Matt Gerald reprise their roles from the original film. Sigourney Weaver returns in a different position with Kate Winslet, Cliff Curtis, Edie Falco, Jemaine Clement and Brendan Cowell joining the cast. Initially, three other sequels were planned, but the technology needed to capture the scenes underwater was not available yet, which led to delays to allow the crew more time to work on it.
