The Bite Magazine - Spring/Summer 2021 - Issue 29
bitebags Since his death in February 2019, the brand has been under the design directorship of Hun Kim, who worked closely with the late designer for five years and was cho- sen by Lagerfeld as the design team leader. The great news is that the brand tells stories from the designer's life and the things that inspired him, like architecture, music, and places in the world. "We feel like an embassy of Karl's creative mindset and invite people to take part in it," said CEO Pier Paolo Righi in an interview with WWD in 2020. For SS21, Karl Lagerfeld collaborated with American model, actress and activist Amber Valletta to co-devel- op an eco-friendly accessories collection. The conscious designs, including a special edition K/Kushion bag, are crafted with innovative, socially sustainable materials sourced with minimal ecological impact. Inspired by a tailor-made cushion that Karl carried on his world- ly travels, kept from his childhood, the K/Kushion bag mimics the silhouette with a voluminous effect and pil- lowy soft touch. “To see it all coming to life is a great achievement and honour. I am convinced that Karl would have loved it,” Amber said about the collaboration. “I love being able to continue his legacy - chic, bold and innovative! It was exciting to see how thoroughly the Karl Lagerfeld brand is researching sustainable practices and materials. They continue to impress me with their knowledge and commitment to design and to produce in a new and con- scious way.” Image: © Mary Rozzi - BTS 22
