bitebags Jada Brookes discovers Karl Lagerfeld’s sustainable collaboration with model and actress Amber Valletta focused on the K/Kushion bags and accessories. Karl Lagerfeld x Amber Valletta CONSCIOUS LIVING T hey say behind the dark sunglasses, polished suit, flawless hair, international fashion icon Karl Lagerfeld was an incredible human. He was extraordinary perceptive, brilliantly well-read, a dazzling storyteller and known to his friends as genu- ine, generous and kind. Famous for his sharp tongue, it was somewhat surprising to learn the designer had a biting sense of humour. “Karl’s sharp tongue could deliver a wisecrack with perfect timing; he always promised to be an entertaining conversationalist.” Undoubtedly, design was the foundation of Karl La- gerfeld's life and expressing his inexhaustible creativ- ity was an intrinsic need. Before getting into fashion, he had planned to become an illustrator. After he entered the 1954 International Woolmark Prize at 21 years old and won first place for his sketch of a coat, he changed his career direction to fashion. “In the 65 years that followed, fashion remained the core of his work, though he continually explored various realms of design.” Image: © Amanda de Cadenet - Hero 3
