ritish/Korean London-based duo Wooze returns with new single ‘Witch Slap (IOU) taken from their EP Get MeTo A Nunnery due out in autumn 2021 viaYoung Poet. The latest release marks the band’s first material since critically acclaimed EP What’s on Your Mind?, combining angular ‘80s glam-inflected instrumentation with elements of highly infec- tious, riff-driven galactic psych and intoxicating, sometimes biting, wonky pop vocal lines throughout. Speaking about the single, the band said, “This is probably the fastest song we have written so far, done in about 20 minutes after we had finished demoing another song in the early morning. Lyrically, it is a sadomasochistic taken on a classic love stemming from the simple pun on a bitch slap.” Accompanying the single, Wooze shared a new live video filmed at Seoul Cabaret with the duo’s long-term collaborator Nuri Jeong who has worked with K-pop singer Crush and rapper Zico. The video perfectly encapsulates the band’s epiphanic live energy, which saw them build an ever-increasing cult following before the first lockdown. It also serves as a teaser of what is to come with the brand eagerly planning new live dates for 2021/2022, including Big Foot Festival on 18 June, Headrow House on 25 June, Moth Club on 26 June and Pohoda OnThe Ground from 7 to 11 July with more dates to come. Wooze, named after a rough phonetic translation of ‘space’ in Korean, was formed in 2017 by Jamie She and Theo Spark.The duo initially met through Brixton’s MuddyYard (an artist-led col- lective based in a disused builder’s yard).Then, at the epicentre of the art scene surrounding the collective that utilises the space to hold art exhibitions, perform live and work on various creative projects together.
