bitecatwalk MARINA MOSCONE I greatly respect a lady who knows what she wants, how she connects to her work, and what makes her feel like her passion is being fulfilled. Marina Moscone is one of these women. Her SS21 collection was released via a filmed documentary/interview where she described her creative process and how this unprecedented time of quarantining has shaped her outlook on life. She also revealed the next steps for her fashion line and what she feels women will seek out in the future. Moscone has the gift of wanting to amass inspiration from a wide variety of sources. Everything from nature, art, past and present style icons, empowered women, events in history; long walks in an all-but-vacant city encouraged her designs to fruition. She practices transintestinal meditation that she explained helps centre her mind. At the beginning of each new collection, she asks, “What is she doing? Where is she going, and how does she want to feel?” This method helps her instinctually know what’s right, “I know what I want to feel.” For this season’s collection, Moscone was involved in every physical step of its fabrication. From hand-mould- ing the one-of-a-kind clay statement pieces of jewellery she made, painstakingly hand-weaving her knitwear from upcycled materials and sumptuous cashmere and silk yarns on a loom in her apartment, to hand-dyeing her fabrics. Ultimately, this highly personal and curated collec- tion featured one of her greatest desires for the collection - to represent the true craftsmanship of fashion designing. “It’s all about the artistry,” she stated. Her effortless, minimalistic silhouettes - boxy shift dresses, tunics with cropped pants, t-shirt dresses, crochet knits and trim suits - are visually stunning and easy to wear, not excessive or overly blatant. They have a voice of their own without the added bells and whistles of abun- dance or unnecessary styling, as seen in the long t-shirt dresses with over a foot of exposed raw hem that acts as the garment fringe. “There’s such beauty to be found in the imperfect.” These clothes are meant to be worn by pragmatic women. “These intelligent, pragmatic women need something they can just throw on and go about their day in.” https://marinamoscone.com
