The Bite Magazine - Spring/Summer 2021 - Issue 29
S ay ‘Nǐ hǎo!’ (hello) to your new favourite luxury knitwear brand. How I’ve seemed to miss knowing about them is an actual sin on my part, as this company is unreservedly fabulous! Chaired by Boris Xue, the Chinese Consinee Group finally made their official NYFW debut as the first show on 16 September 2020. Having filmed the previous month to a live audience of industry peers at the new and ultramodern Shang- hai Centre, Consinee was one of the few in the fashion world who still decided to host a live runway show. This filmed show was presented via NYFW’s official streaming platform. However, this isn’t the first show Consinee has presented in NYC because for the last two years; they have hosted mega 1000-person events at 55 Wall Street for fashion insiders, reps and friends. In business for two decades and attached to such brands as Ralph Lauren, Chanel and Hermes and Burberry, to name a few, this cashmere company is already known for its exemplary yarn quality. Mr Xue made a statement saying, “Consinee has been dedicated to the production of premium cashmere yarn for the past 20 years, supplying to hundreds of leading fashion brands worldwide, but we also have a passion for fashion ourselves. Since 2018 we have been presenting original looks at our own runway shows in New York for our industry friends; debuting at NYFW is a natural progres- sion and something we’ve always wanted. We must not be complacent with ‘Made in China’; we must work towards ‘Created in China.’” Ergo, with such a history, the brand’s award-winning designer, Steven Oo, sent over 40 looks that maintained the brand’s excellent reputation. Large LED screens displayed undulating sea waves in the background above an über minimalistic bowed runway that looked almost like a wind- blown sail. Striking male and female models sauntered methodically down the catwalk in what I can only describe as some of the finest cashmere knitwear I have ever seen. Each piece was exquisitely crafted, tailored, styled and executed. Layered over divine high-waisted flared pants, form-fitting dresses, and slouchy menswear trousers were long cardigans, lightweight sweater coats, capelets, over- sized scarves and tops in blended prints and textures, and yarn fringe detailing. The overall styling of the looks perhaps lent to a slightly more mature, wealthy demo- graphic, but what’s lovely about this line is that each piece can be easily adapted and added to one’s existing ward- robe throughout the year. This collection’s colour scheme was very neutral and impartial to season. Conclusively, I’m now a diehard fan and will be following Consinee from here on out, wishing and hoping to catch one of these shimmery flared pants and long printed sweater coats to be made my own! “The world is flat, and fashion knows no boundaries,” Consinee Chairman Boris Xue concluded. “We are hopeful that our participation in NYFW this season is only the beginning of endless possi- bilities. The only constant in this world is change, especially for traditional industries like ours.” Amen, sir, Amen! Favourite Looks: Everything was incredible, but Look #23 was jaw-dropping. If you’re a minimalist bride looking to do a winter wedding, this is the dress! http://en.consinee.com.cn bitecatwalk CONSINEE
