T he famous Waldorf Hilton in Aldwych, London was host to the master of tailoring, Paul Costelloe’s elegant AW20 collection. The backdrop for this season was a traffic-filled illustration of a cityscape, filled with bumper-to-bumper yellow cabs during rush hour in New York. For Autumn/Winter 2020, Paul Costelloe created a collection called ‘Make Life Easier On The Treadmill of Fashion’ for the pre- and post-sport city individual who is conscious of their health but with comfort as the main priority. High tech bodysuits and leggings featuring in-house de- signed graphic prints were worn under oversized wool and tweed coats sourced from the good old Scottish Highlands and Lake Como. This is precision sportswear with timeless beauty. The retro-looking collection had various silhou- ettes with elongated bell sleeves and the use of prints in a colour palette of grey, muted blue, fuchsia, orange, and brown tones. Coats with flo- ral print fabrics and beautiful contrasting in grey with significant flower patterns harmonised well with heavy dark coloured jackets. This collection was well suited to be worn in winter. Chic jumpers in luxurious wool, and crafted coats and jackets in Italian wool, and mini-skirts on top of contrasting skin-tight bodysuits were terrific. A diverse mix of fabrics and tones, from bright floral red/white, green, and blue to muted greys as well as the Italian wool used made it glamour at its finest! Smart coloured croc looking ankle boots added maturity and sophistication, while chicness was presented in the models’ styling. Sleek updos and aviator sunglasses added to the overall looks. As the collection developed, there was a strong theme of urban city life and an inner-city adaptation. The standout piece was in the form of a floor-length red flowers/blue v-neck dress.
