bite catwalk A ptly named ‘Obsessive O.C.D’ Jamie Wei Huang presented her take on the mental dis- order that is OCD. Not only did she succeed in providing us with an SS20 collection of modern and effortlessly chic looks but she did so with expert construction techniques that emanated the con- cept of obsessive-compulsive disorder. Working with an oversized fit to her shirts and t-shirts allowed Huang to play with the textures of her more figure-hugging strappy knitted crop tops. The conflict within the distressed knitting tied in beautifully with the perfection of the rest of the looks such as white and black mesh skirts. Huang’s focus was on the contrasting textures between the metallic hoops used to fasten the top and bottom sections of the garments to keep them together. This technique added an element of fragility to the collection and reflected further how fragile OCD can leave some- one at times. Although the designs were predominantly oversized, the slip maxi dresses and cycling shorts accentuated the elegance of the models’ collar bones and legs. It further accentuated the legs with interesting slits in midi skirts behind the legs that opened with a thick ruffle. Extra glamour was added to cycling shorts; an otherwise ath- leisure look with sheer pleated skirts. Light, cool pastels sparked interest with bold and bright reds, pinks, and greens on sheer fabrics. The colour palette tied in well with futuristic chokers that resembled hospital wristbands and tags in evoking chilling alertness that left one rigid in their seat as the models passed with backcombed hair and asymmetrical make-up; twisting and toying with the idea of perfection and our constant pursuit for it. www.jamieweihuang.com FASHION WEEK LONDON Spring/Summer 2020 JAMIE WEI HUANG
