F or SS20, Malan Breton kept true to his style of gorgeous evening gowns and power suits for both women and men. This season, his designs featured tradi- tional Japanese print and chic crocodile leather among an array of oranges, reds, and blues that served prosperity this spring and summer. Breton worked his magic to create visions of rich oranges with dresses fit for goddesses that hugged the figure in the most flattering places with volumes of lighter fabric relaxing behind the models as they walked. Contrasting romantic silhouettes in edgy maroon and black leather jackets with exagger- atedly long frays and an encapsulating crocodile leather dress. If it were not for thick and scaly textures, the dress would have been definable as lingerie with its vintage bust cup shape and gar- ter-like holes. This piece was positively reptilian and defined the woman as a formidable being that the dress required no other accessory, jew- ellery or coat – it stood powerfully alone. Breton’s crocodile leather reappeared in such designs as a collared, sleeveless mini dress, men’s jacket with a centre pocket and women’s belted trench coat with peplum sleeves. He designed with the roaring 1920s in mind with a sheer dress that revealed the breasts and under- wear of the model, finishing off with three tiers of pleated ruffles. A lavender dream of exquisite design elevated the chest with a deep open v-neck and delicate sheer fabric covered the entirety of the arms. This dress was amongst many of his designs this season that showed the sheer creativity and imagination within his creations that mastered a portrayal of the female and male body in pro- jecting every essence of its strength and beauty. www.malanbreton.com bite catwalk MALAN BRETON
