bite catwalk BORA AKSU AADNEVIK S howcasing their SS20 collection at the Royal Horseguards Hotel is the exquisite designer duo Hila and Kristian Aad- nevik. With its wooden floors, tall ceilings, and charming chandeliers, the hotel presented an incredible venue this season for the designers’ looks to speak powerfully to the awaiting audience. Lights up, the models commenced strutting designs of sultry blues, black, and strikingly brilliant yellows down the hardwood floor runway. This season, Aadnevik focused on accentuating the bodice and décolletage of women. Mid-thigh mini dresses allow us to show our legs off this summer, whilst the designers’ ideology showed what femininity looks like on the top half of our bodies. These mini dresses were fresh and effortless with flowing chiffon skirts and figure-hugging bodices. Floor-length dresses delivered with divine elegance as sheer fabric cascaded downwards and behind the models. The bodices cap- tured and held our gaze, as we stared in wonder at African style patterns created with beading and lacing. Feline leopard prints and frills took over a singular leg with extremely high-leg slits that allowed for extravagance this Spring/Summer. Their designs will see SS20 filled with couture evening wear coin- ciding with ultimate ready-to-wear looks of luxury leather jackets and trousers. www.aadnevik.com T his Spring/Summer 2020, Bora Aksu presented his womenswear collection of classic romantic and femi- nine designs, drawing inspiration from Persian Prin- cess, Taj al-Saltaneh - who died in 1936. Al-Saltaneh is known for her activism and artwork. Aksu’s exquisite designs have stayed close to traditional forms and cuts along with a couture level of construction. His extensive use of ruffles and peplum relates to the French dress style of the 1930s. Contrasting between lighter soft and stiffer hard fabrics has al- lowed the designer to relate his collection to al-Saltaneh’s progres- sion into becoming an activist. The designer realised beautiful layers of floral lace that accentu- ated the youthful features of his models. As a collection, it’s hy- per-femininity stood strong and evoked an almost gothic feel with the use of models’ hair being styled into pleats, lace veils, and vin- tage cat-eye shades. Although the models wore floral pale white tights throughout, we saw a transitioning of colours from the angelic whites into a bou- quet of reds, yellows, lavenders, and blues that lifted the collection into a force of feminine power. https://boraaksu.com AKSU AADNEVIK
