The Bite Magazine - Spring/Summer 2020 - Issue 27
bite catwalk B obby Abley found the directions to the Emerald City this Spring/Summer 2020 with his energetic designs that ref- erenced the main themes and characters of The Wizard of Oz. To those who are not aware, it is in true Abley style to base his collections on children’s films and characters. Opening the designer’s collection with an ultra-powerful look is none other than the yellow brick road printed on a long hooded jacket and trousers worn with a silky yellow hoodie. Following this, The Wicked Witch stormed down with her red slipper stripy jumper, styled accordingly with stripy knee-high socks. Recurring themes of blue and white plaid and houndstooth em- anated throughout with a black rim that created a cartoon-like frame to the designer’s already theatrical looks. Dorothy took to the streets in her flamenco-styled outfit with a frilled turtleneck hood and chaps – not forgetting the ingenious make-up with pleated pigtails and red lipstick. We saw the true team player of Oz, innocent pink ‘Glinda’ sporting a silky basketball tank top and tutu shorts. Abley shared his two scarecrow looks accessorised with on-trend bucket hats. The first, a more conceptual derivative of the charac- ter with his blue and white plaid dungarees open styled, reveal- ing a modern black and white scarecrow print underneath. A straw-coloured removable hood, waterproof jacket and trousers with bright primary coloured printed patches represented a closer representation of the designer’s second look of the beloved char- acter. A stripper Tinman strutted down the runway in a two-piece sil- ver ensemble of chaps and jacket revealing a ripped torso beneath and a heart decoration dangling from a choker. Layers of tiger and leopard print flow beneath the model’s bucket hat introduced the now Confident Lion in three looks! The second look focused on the floor-length faux fur jacket with a hood of mane styled with red and white striped boxer shorts and socks. A pulsating colour palette of deep blues on satin jackets and fluffy forest greens took us into the Emerald City. Fearless feminine confidence flowed down the runway with a ponytail of emerald green hair swung side to side behind the model. Finalising his col- lection, Dorothy returned in a spaghetti-strapped rainbow mini dress and ruby heels. www.bobbyabley.co.uk FASHION WEEK LONDON Spring/Summer 2020 BOBBY ABLEY BOBBY ABLEY BORA
