T wentieth Century Studios presents a collection of history’s worst tyrants and criminal masterminds who gather together to plot a war to wipe out millions of people in the new film The King’s Man . Based on the comic book The Secret Service by Mark Miller and Dave Gibbons and directed by MatthewVaughn, the latest film is a prequel to the Kingsman movies that told the beloved story of power duo Eggsy and Harry Hart in Kingsman:The Secret Service and Kingsman:The Golden Circle. The centre stage of this movie is taken by the Duke of Oxford (Ralph Fiennes) who is mentoring a young soldier Conrad (Harris Dickinson). It seems like the relationship is similar to Eggsy and Harry Hart as the trailer gives us glimpses of the familiar scenes from Kingsman: The Golden Circle such as the Kingsman mansion where they train recruits, and the front of the Saville Row shop where Conrad is inducted into the intelligence agency. The King’s Man is set in the early 1900s duringWorld War I which reveals the origins of the very first inde- pendent intelligence agency and invites us into the hidden world of the best agents of the era. In the film, histori- cal figures such as Czar Nicholas II, the last monarch of Russia, played by Tom Hollander, and Grigori Rasputin, best known as the mystical advisor in the court of Czar Nicholas II, played by Rhys Ifans, as well as the Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand, whose death is considered to be the beginning of theWorldWar I, are revealed. “One man must race against time to stop them” which for us means explosive action scenes, slick shots and a great cast to bring the story to life. No matter the important historical events portrayed in the movie, the prequel will not be lacking a sense of humour with the snippet introduction of a parachute as a means “to jump off the plane safely” showing the extreme surprise on the characters’ face; it is the early 1900s after all.
