The Bite Magazine - Spring/Summer 2020 - Issue 27
bite new music B efore the release of their second album, Do You Won- der About Me?, at the beginning of May, American indie rock duo Diet Cig unveiled the lead single ‘Who Are You?’ Singer and guitarist Alex Luciano’s vocals are as The New York Times said, “the sweet clarity of her voice riding verses that seethe and rumble with a ferocity that harks back to the Who.” It is indeed sweet but has a firm tone that you have to stop and listen to. As the band says, “‘Who Are You?’ is for anyone who’s ever re- ceived a completely self-serving apology from someone who’s hurt them. I learned that healing doesn’t wait for an ‘I’m sorry’ to appear, and it can feel silly to have one arrive when you’re completely over it. This song takes these bad feelings and turns them into a fun upbeat jam to dance around in your kitchen to!” Together with Noah Bowman on drums, Diet Cig has been compared to tornadoes, firecrackers, and lightning storms, and described as genuine, unapologetic, and down-to-earth. Although the audio-video to the song is not the standard mu- sic representation, you could get lost in the music by watching the clover-like icon that changes colour and patterns from the blue sky with clouds to psychedelic patterns. Diet Cig had to reschedule their UK tour dates due to the pan- demic and will play their first show at Rough Trade in Bristol on 18th November. They will go on to perform at The Bodega in Nottingham, YES in Manchester, The Hare and Hounds in Birmingham, Broadcast in Glasgow, Belgrave Music Hall in Leeds, The Hope and Ruin in Brighton, The Dome in London and finish at Clwb Ifor Bach in Cardiff on the 28th. http://dietcig.com Diet Cig Who Are You?
