I f being in love with someone who doesn’t love you back makes you feel like you’re six feet under, then I’d rather be ‘in love’ with someone who mutually feels the same way on cloud nine or par- tying it up in paradise.New talent LolaYoung has decided to put a spin on the power of love by naming her debut single ‘6 Feet Under’ which is described as a “haunting and subtle, hook-laden track that feels sketched out of Lola’s very being.” Being an 18-year-old doesn’t mean Lola hasn’t had some experience in the love department so we appreciate her descriptive dilemma. Co-produced by Al Shux (Kendrick Lamar, Lana Del Rey, Jay Z), the song was written by Lola on the piano before being worked into an atmospheric and touching missive that has Lola lamenting over the battle to pull yourself out of depression. “It’s about that mental feeling of being stuck in a time and place while the world continues to turn,” Lola said of the song. “Life goes on, regardless of the way you feel about it.”This is very true.The accom- panying video, directed by award-winning director Dianne White, delves straight into this narrative and shows the singer’s overt skill for performance and the layers to her music. This fiercely independent and exceptionally talented young artist is said to have an undeniable creative focus. As a live performer she is described as captivating and uncompromising; showing her talent at a recent 3-night four-show residency at Kansas Smitty’s in east London, where she stunned audiences whilst previewing upcoming new material. Drawing on a unique gift for writing songs that encapsulate and explore the human condition, Lola does this in a way that is honest and soul-bearing. She is able to delve into her feelings and turn extremely personal emotions into something every listener can relate to.
