The Bite Magazine - Spring 2019 - Issue 24

bite catwalk C lubbing in comfort, glitz and glam is the easiest way to describe the SS19 col- lection from Nicopanda. Models were dolled up in sequin dresses, skin-tight velour pants, oversized hoodies and flamboyant t-shirt dresses. It was a real look back at the late 1990s/early 2000s club culture. From neon col- ours, animal prints to disco sequins and tulle frills; these were a nod to the ‘90s disco diva. Starting off strong with his take on the 2000s velour tracksuit, Nicopanda presented a hot pink two-piece with a bedazzled skeleton body embellishment, followed by sexy one-shoulder velour jumpsuits with the iconic ‘90s ‘anarchy’ statement. The collection also explored a number of iconic ‘90s trends, mixing in the current trend of sportswear, in particular cycling shorts. Sporty cropped hoodies and neon check track- suits presented an effortlessly stylish aesthetic while baby pink striped polos and body suits with Nicopanda slogans and imagery were reminis- cent of the ‘90s preppy trend. His iconic teddy bear imagery added a kitschy cute aspect to the colourful collection. Slogans like ‘R.I.P DISCO’ captured the overall concept, complimented by the catwalk venue that felt like an underground rave with two gigantic oversized disco balls that lit up the space. Music was an intense mix of all the best turn-of-the- century music, with an atmosphere that made you want to get up and dance the night away. A large section of the collection was dedicated to a partnership with the estate of Divine, a legend- ary, pre-millennium, icon of the club culture. From the drag doll make-up worn by the models to the hot pink looks featuring unreleased photographs of Divine, repeated print imagery and cowboy hats embodied the essence of divine. Chunky platform shoes were supplied by New Rock, in colours complimentary to the outfits. It was all about clashing and matching. The final addition to the collection came in the form of upscaling.T-shirt dresses turned glam- orous with the addition of tulle frills, and a tulle dress overlay, a nod to the raver tutu and unique sleeveless t-shirt dresses with draped sequin dresses tacked to the front were a fun take on the ‘90s trend of making something its own.The upscaling of comfortable clothing with fun ele- ments created the perfect attire for a long night of partying in a club or rave. www.nicopanda.com NICOPANDA NICOPANDA
