The Bite Magazine - Spring 2019 - Issue 24
J JS LEE J JS LEE I nspired by the process of upholstering, J JS Lee presented a boxy feminine collec- tion. Boyish moments were contrasted with soft details, slip dresses reset over and underneath stiff shirts and decon- structed overcoat. A palette of muted greys and browns were broken up by bold buttercup yellows and coral pinks, adding a subtle flair amongst the cool toned tai- lored style J JS Lee is known for. Years of mastering tailoring techniques in her home- town Seoul, South Korea, has given Lee the knowledge and understanding of construc- tion which allows her to experiment with silhouette, cut and design in the mature and tailored style she is known for. Experimental deconstruction is something she was inspired by this season, enhanced by her shared studio occupant who works in upholstery, Lee was inspired by the process she observed. Finding the structure of couch chairs a fitting interpretation into ridging shapes, extended over the natural shoulder line, created a smooth boxy look. As well as shape inspiration Lee chan- nelled her love of traditional style through a deconstructed houndstooth print. Colour locket jackets arms holes had cutouts on sleeves and statement colour blocked trou- sers. Overall Lee presented a well-tailored chic collection broken up by conceptual details. Purposeful shapes highlighting key points of the collection, juxtaposing with soft details, the choice of fabrics and colour blocking added to the deconstructed and repurposed collection in a way that was ultimately wearable and chic. www.jsleelondon.com bite catwalk
