It was his inspired move to the United States in 1981,
after a visit to California four years earlier, that gave
birth to international brand GUESS Inc. Algerian-
born and raised in Marseille in the South of France,
Paul Marciano worked for the family clothing business,
which inspired him to go into business with his three
brothers and launch the GUESS label, primarily as
a denim brand. Using iconic award-winning black and white
photography campaigns, based on an ideal of 1950s lifestyle and
free spirit, the GUESS advertisements raised the profile of many
young unknown models to international star status.
Under his visionary creative leadership, the brand
incorporated accessories and perfume into the already
established jeans and fashion attire business. In 1989, GUESS
watches were licensed to Callanen International, resulting in
the creation of the recognised number one licensed watch
brand in the world. However, Marciano seeing a much bigger
picture ahead, decided to launch a prestige watch brand that
would combine all the codes of fashion with luxury in terms of
materials and design for a fashion-savvy and quality-seeking
clientele. This fashion-forward move was realised in 2002
when the Gc brand became Swiss Made. Through the
production and distribution of Sequel AG (a Timex Group
company) in Switzerland, Gc is now one of the top ten
Swiss Made watches in the world.
Since its launch seven years ago, the Gc-1 remains
the most successful series and the face of the brand
today. The new Gc-1 Sport is an impressive Swiss
Made model that fuses sporty chic with modern design.
Its combination of detailed design with refinement in
functionality makes the Gc-1 Sport a statement watch
for fashion conscious consumers. Dynamic features include
an add and split function with an precision of up to 1/10th
second and tachymeter scale, 44mm polished or brushed 316L
available in stainless steel or black and rose gold (PVD) case,
black carbon fibre or silver coloured textured square pattern
on dial, black (PVD) or polished stainless steel link bracelet with
deployment buckle, hand-applied Roman numeral and indices,
and hands coated with Super-LumiNova, screwed case back
with engraved style number, screw-down crown with embossed
Gc logo, scratch-resistant sapphire crystal and water resistance
to 100m (10 ATM).
