wasn’t your conventional run-

of-the-mill event or staged in a

venue like Somerset House, Freemason’s

Hall or Earl’s Court; it was in fact in a car

park located in Soho, in the heart of the

West End. Perhaps a good idea in warmer

or hotter weather but when the autumn

breeze is whistling past you with the bite of

winter hot on its tail,it could be quite a chilly

experience being outside. Nevertheless,

the cool collection of A-line dresses, boxy-

jackets and full circle skirts inspired by the

1970s Rock & Roll realm of lucid colours,

shapes and noises that mesmerised London

icon, Catherine de Asquith, was enough to

keep everyone’s eyes fixed on the fashion

interpretation of fashion but Sorapol bases

his on a famous quote by OscarWilde that

sums it all up for him, “Fashion is a form

of ugliness, so intolerable that we have to

alter it every six months.” With no truer

words said, the designer sets out to “make

beautiful garments that inspire confidence

and timelessness.”

To Sorapol, style is an intricate factor

that matters the most to him and his

motto seems to be, “find a style, build a

vision and become iconically recognised.”

When asked to define the city he now

lives in, he said: “London is a cultural

hub where anything goes, and I’ve had

the privilege of calling both London and

Thailand home. I am constantly inspired

just walking through the streets of London

designer’s creations.

Born in Bangkok, Thailand, Sorapol

Chawaphatnakul immediately fell in

love with London due to its chromatic

culture and atmosphere that inspired

him creatively. He began studying Fashion

Design in Thailand and then moved to

London in early 2011 to complete his

studies at London College of Fashion.

Soon after, he officially launched the label

Sorapol in October 2011 with creative

director Daniel Lismore. Of his parents, he

says they always inspired him to be artistic,

cultured and spiritual, and so with these

qualities sown into his designer DNA, he

loves “to create wearable pieces of art

for the modern and powerful woman.”
