The Bite Magazine - Autumn/Winter 2024 - Issue 36
bitefashion The 1930s and 1940s proved challenging due to the eco- nomic turmoil and the impact of World War II. Materials like cotton and wool were often in short supply, but Hanro remained committed to producing high-quality underwear in these difficult times. The brand focused on simple, func- tional designs emphasising durability without sacrificing comfort. After the war, in the 1950s, they experimented with new synthetic fabrics, such as nylon and modal, and introduced men’s underwear. With the Swinging Sixties marking a revolution in fashion and lingerie, women’s underwear became more diverse. New designs embraced femininity, freedom of movement, and personal expression. Hanro responded to these chang- es by launching more refined, sensual pieces, blending functionality with a subtle elegance. Lace trims, silk, and soft colour palettes became popular, moving away from the purely practical nature of undergarments in previous decades. Images courtesy of Task PR
