bitecatwalk Collective Showcase Special Report Tamara Tamara’s collection entitled ‘Reflection’ paid tribute to the spirit and empowerment of Ukrainian women. The designer considered how fashion and refugeehood could be combined to emotionally explore Ukrainian women’s journey. One of the most powerful examples in this pres- entation was a set of suitcases carried by the models with a mirror pointed towards the audience. As they walked the runway in the designer’s dramatic and dark silk ensembles, it forced the audience to see themselves in the suitcases’ reflection to spark empathy for Ukraine. Aside from the powerful metaphors seen on the runway, this collection was filled with brilliant use of textures. The opening look, in particular, had a natural movement which hypnotised the audience. With each look predominately black, the runway was a tribute to what Ukrainian women have lost and their survival strength. J’Amemme This designer’s collection brought one word to my mind overwhelmingly: light. There is a defiance in sheer fabrics and draped silk, which can hold the voice of an entire group of people. Three designers did pre- cisely that in the Ukrainian Fashion Week show- case. These talented creatives embedded their peo- ple’s bravery into their clothes. They stood up for the East European country by continuing to create even when so much was being destroyed. Tamara, J’Amemme, and Gasanova continue the power of Ukrainian Fashion Week in London, honouring their country and people to ensure individuals are not forgotten during the Ukrainian war. UKRAINIAN
