bitecatwalk T his debut feels like a love letter to the designer’s process. Derrick wanted to explore a regular London experience: the people you share your walk home from work with. Between Bethnal Green and Spitalfields in east London, he observed an array of people who bristle in the cold. Most of this col- lection has high necklines and a nod to familiar work- wear styles. The designer has an eye for elevated simplicity that acts as a throughline for this collection. Even the more ex- citing pieces — two looks come to mind with scarves that drape heavily over one shoulder and spill out from a buttoned jumper surrounded by muted colours so that there is never one look that asks for too much at- tention—the most obvious nod to Derrick’s inspiration. Like the sleepwalkers of London, these looks are not loud but become more exciting the longer you observe them. I enjoyed the use of colour and the mixed materi- als that make this collection glisten as it moves, the clas- sic silhouettes paired together, and the subtle drama of the open jackets and monochrome shirts and trousers underneath.
