The action and comedy film starring Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans is festive and thrilling, combining Christmas cheer with a high-octane adventure. Who would imagine Santa Claus (appointed code name Red One and played by J. K. Simmons) lifting weights in the hundreds with Johnson spotting him? The plot revolves around an elite special operations team, E.L.F. (Extremely Large and Formidable), led by Johnson’s character, tasked with a secret mission to save Christmas from a global threat. Evans plays a former military operative turned civilian reluctantly dragged back into action. Whilst the two main characters repel, Johnson’s charismatic and larger-than-life persona complements Evan’s more grounded and sarcastic approach. Kasdan delivers a fast-paced and engaging experience with a blend of practical effects and CGI that bring the fantastical elements to life. The action sequences are inventive and fun, incorporating holiday-themed gadgets and settings (includ- ing the red toy car turning into a large stunning sports car) that add a unique flavour to the genre.
