The Bite Magazine - Autumn/Winter 2023 - Issue 34

bitecatwalk SAUL NASH F inally, a designer who has indeed taken on a neglected winter wear niche in the market and brought it off the slopes and onto the streets! I am so excited to finally see ‘tailored’ ski clothes made accessible and chic enough to feel in the après lodges of the world’s finest mountain ski resorts and on the snow-covered city sidewalks. Saul Nash saw this gap and decided he would be the one to fill it! Growing up, Nash and his community wore ski clothes but, ironically, never learned how to ski. As a designer raised in northeast London, this collection allowed him to explore how to combine his brilliance in blending technical, unrestrictive gar- ments with those of high fashion. Sarah Mower of Vogue.com quoted Nash on February 20, 2023, stating, “I’m exploring where I’m coming from and where I’m going to. What would it have been like if my friends and I had skied?” He added, “It was also looking at this idea of aspiration because many brands that sell ski wear or padded garments are selling a lifestyle of aspiration—or almost a dream.” That’s precisely what he did with these comforta- ble yet highly functional and stylised cold-weather looks. I like that he didn’t just feature puffy, down jackets or bulky ski pants but took a deep dive into the whole kit of skiwear, down to the thermals and all! His ability to use his expertise in tech-based, gar- ment longevity, and carbon impact-making proved helpful, as he won the prestigious Woolmark Prize last year for this! While Nash mainly designed this collection for men, I would happily don and layer the pale blue thermal set in look #5 and then gladly take the silver ‘space- man’ suit in look #30 and swoon in the enveloping heat! https://saulnash.co.uk
