(1968) The Beatles opened their first fashion retail venture, Apple Boutique; their psychedelic Garden of Eden, returned to everyday clothing and detailed John’s disruptive relationship with Yoko Ono. Unravelling The Threads (1969) reveals the band’s record/film/ live Get Back project performed on the roof of their Apple Corps headquarters, their boho-electric look mixing high-qual- ity fabrics with proletarian denim and Converse high-tops, the return of old stage clothing, longer hair and beards, the disrup- tive Tommy Nutter splashy party after the Savile Row snobs pulled the plug on the band’s rooftop concert, and the famous Abbey Road zebra crossing. The last chapter, Slouching Toward Mortality (1970 and Beyond), details The Beatles’ drab apparel and return to proletarian blue denim they first wore two decades ago, their break-up, George’s triple LP All Things Must Pass release, Paul’s hit album Band On The Run with his new band Wings and scoring a James Bond film, and Ringo’s live supergroup All Starr Band. John retreated from the limelight but released three albums with Yoko Ono. He was tragically murdered in 1980, and George died from cancer in 2001. Fashioning The Beatles , published by Sutherland House Books, provides extensive information on the band, some of which I didn’t know before, including their associates and partners, success, thoughts, rebellion, ideas, and creativity.
