Friends Hendrik van Benthem and Antica Palacios grew up bik- ing through the rain and found traditional rainwear lacked style and function. Inspired by years of wet commutes, the duo designed rainwear that adapts to unpredictable weather and a busy lifestyle. Maium (meaning rain, water and canal from the Bargoens dialect) was founded in 2016 and comprises trench coats, rain macs, ponchos and puffer jackets. “With at least 130 days of rain yearly and more than one- third of the country below sea level, we have a reputation for creating innovative ways to keep ourselves dry. Our raincoats are designed to help protect you from the ele- ments through innovation in design, func- tion and materials.” The raincoats are easily transformed into a poncho for a bike or scooter using the signa- ture zippers on each side. “It’s a solution to keep you dry and fashionable while on the go,” Anita told Drapers Online. “The func- tional aspect is present in all our products - supporting tech and innovation in fashion.” The brand encourages people to take their bikes instead of a car, taxi or public trans- port since it positively impacts health and helps decrease carbon emissions.
