I truly believe that black is not just a colour, but a style that fits any occasion.” At reinKreacja, Kasia and Maria choose the finest materials for their designs. Their favourite fabric is cotton. “But only high-qual- ity cotton because it looks elegant and at the same time is natural, breathable and comfortable material,” Maria stressed. “This may be why all our clients are so satisfied with our quality. We pay the same attention to embellishments such as zippers or buckles as we would to the apparel.” The brand also consciously works solely with Polish companies that have excellent client satisfaction rates. Maria grew up in the fashion city of Łódź, Poland, where their stu- dio is also based. She revealed many old manufacturers are here, some of which have been producing cotton since the 19th cen- tury. “My home city was always very liberal and open-minded,” she said. “We have an amazing Academy of Fine Art, so my city’s fashion is full of surprises. People are not afraid to express them- selves and wear whatever they want. That’s why I love my city.” The designer also gives massive credit to her sewists (or seamstress) and acknowledge they are essential members of a fashion brand. reinKreacja also believes happy employees equal happy employ- ers; thus, paying them well is vital. The co-designer finds being a fashion designer excellent, but it also comes with responsibility and challenges. “You create something in your head, then change it into a drawing and, later, a real piece of clothing. In the beginning, I was always super excited when I saw my first samples, but after some time, you have to deal with people’s opinions, so you have to learn how to accept some crit- icism. But to be honest, the best perk is that you can be yourself and express yourself even when it comes to opposing opinions.” She added, “As a designer, I always put lots of pressure on the quality of sewing and the materials. So if something goes wrong, you are responsible and must learn to work under pressure.” Ma- ria described it as stressful when preparing for a fashion show or shoot. “You must focus on many elements such as shoes, models, photographers, and styling. It always takes time and lots of ener- gy.” But she draws inspiration from other creators, such as Karl Lagerfeld and said the late fashion icon and visionary is her best- loved designer. “He had a vision and was very consistent about it.” Lastly, we wanted to find out what fashion means to the artist. “Fashion is everything. It’s how you look, how you choose your clothes, and what you are surrounded by. Fashion is how you live and the kind of lifestyle you choose. Fashion is choosing what kind of beauty you want to surround yourself with.” For aspiring fashion designers, she would advise them to “learn to work hard, be patient and honestly believe in your vision.
