reinKreacja Giedre Jackyte interviewed reinKreacja co-designer Maria and found out why black is the preferred palette for their apparel. bitefashion BLACK IS THE P olish designers and co-founders Kasia Chojnacka and Maria Marcinkowska opened their clothing brand re- inKreacja, meaning ‘re-creation’ in English, in Septem- ber 2014. The two women are passionate about black, the palette of their collections. Their aesthetic was initially ‘sporty elegance’ with surprising details and asymmetrical cuts among classic forms. Since simplicity and minimalism don’t have to be monotony, re- inKreacja breaks the boundaries with fashion-focused classics and comfortable apparel with a twist for modern forms. Their clothing is made from high-quality fabrics that are timeless. They believe the less is more factor derives from the design, which is not just what you look at but also how you feel about it. Therefore, they provide comfort, self-acceptance and beauty within their designs. The brand has appeared in publications like Elle Poland, Glam- our, Forbes Poland, Business Insider Poland, Fashion Magazine and Harper’s Bazaar. Whilst fashion wasn’t her original directive, hav- ing studied law at the University of Łódź, Poland, Maria wanted to do something artistic since she was young. After graduating from university, she changed her course to become a fashion designer. She also dressed differently from others, choosing outfits that no one had worn before. This unique approach helped Maria develop artistic preferences and a sense of beauty in an authentic way that proved successful and helped the brand receive national recognition. Her law stud- ies also proved valuable as they taught her the importance of hard work, patience, and commitment to running a successful fashion brand. She admitted some quality materials; simplicity forming the clothes shape can be far-reaching. “I’ve always wanted to de- sign clothes with a sporty elegance character.” When constructing garments, Maria revealed it takes around a month to bring the product to life. “Firstly, there is an idea,” she explained. “Secondly, you put the idea into a drawing. After that, you create the form.” When the form is ready, the designer starts sewing the first piece and adding amendments. “When it comes to me, I always put some modifications,” she shared. The formed shape is essential because she sincerely cares for her clients to look nice in reinKreacja clothing, no matter their weight or age. “When I’m happy with the form, we create four sizes (usually S to XL), and then we start the production, such as cutting the material and sewing.” The designer prefers sketching designs to constructing the pieces. Maria loves the fact she can freely express herself. “As an artist, you can be more open and crazier, and nobody will criticise you ONLY SHADE
