The Bite Magazine - Autumn/Winter 2022 - Issue 32

EDWARD bitecatwalk D ouble Woolmark Prize-winning de- signer Edward Crutchley injected gen- der-fluid tendencies into his AW22 collection that saw male and female models walk at a snail’s pace. It was unclear whether the extrav- agantly high platforms or keeping with the music’s pace hindered them from moving faster. A hole- punched knitted jumper dress accessorised with heeled platforms started the parade of exciting designed pieces, along with bomber jackets and rhinestone-covered Mary Janes. The long white double-breasted coat featured black and white contrast with a black wraparound and the opposite theme on a shorter black jack- et and white wraparound. Injects of brown, white, grey and black adorned the apparel of shirts, jack- ets, long cardigans and a two-toned heart-shaped dress with a split, bow and gathered material. The ruched crop top overlayed with a black heart- shaped dress was attractive. More fluid looks, including a black bandeau top, pants worn with a leather jacket, and an off-the- shoulder basque-like top with a g-string worn by two men, changed the show’s dynamics. I liked the unexpected twists of materials and styles because you didn’t know what was coming next. It was wild, dark, seductive, colourful and extravagant simulta- neously. However, I needed help understanding why the lights were down when the line of models came back out for the finale. Aside from the physical collection shown, Edward also announced that three pieces, including a crys- tal dress, a goth-like leather jacket and a sleeved gown presented in the show, would be augmented reality launched through the digital design platform Zero10.
