The Bite Magazine - Spring/Summer 2022 - Issue 31

bitecatwalk A s an ‘80s child, I vibe with Annakiki’s Spring-Summer 2022 ‘Quasar’ collection this season. It gave me major Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure and Star Trek feelings as the eerily perfect model specimens sauntered through a stark and sterile series of rooms via the digital runway presentation. Bordering on the blended ideas of science fiction and Annaki- ki’s known futuristic aesthetics, some of the pieces’ exaggerated silhouettes and stylings were entirely on point with the brand’s mission of combining technology and the future of fashion. "The scientific and technological visual experience is brought to life through light, flowing and sparkling fabrics like light metallic satin [and] the integration of metal hardware accessories," Anna- kiki shared on Design Scene's website. "The addition of high-tech materials such as luminescent ones and optical fibres weaving gives a deeper spiritual core to the senses and is also a unique attempt to feel the future closer. Quasars are one of the brightest light sources in the universe; for this reason, the skirts and suits are characterised by a contrast between light and dark colours, just like the fashion appearance of a civilised world, romantic and profound.” It continued to say, "To create a closer bond with the universe, this season develops and innovates the printing process. It sym- bolises the complex interlaced forces in the universe [using] X-rays, star reflection and interstellar electro light, 3D deformed geometric, and the one-sided shooting star printings formed a visual trap. Whether it is a patchwork or an irregularly distorted black and white plaid, it is reminiscent of the ripples of time and space in the concept of physics.” This season's inspiration completely compliments the brand's re- vised mission of keeping in "communication with the language of reverse thinking and anti-traditional, as well as the surreal feeling of the future and technology. Thinking outside the box, creating the unique feminine image and embracing the multiple possibilities of fashion design to push back all design bound- aries.” The pieces that walked may appear radical or even cos- tume-like to the average observer at first; however, if one takes a moment to look at the ensembles and individual pieces, they can see how they’re not all that farfetched. Sure, not everyone is going to feel comfortable wearing a high- cut bodysuit with circular padded, slightly off-the-shoulder de- tails and knee-high cowboy-like boots seen in look #1, or the head-to-toe hooded neon blue and black electrical-current printed body onesie, with layered bubble hemmed dress or the black and white psychedelic-like geometric printed gown. These are for the braver fashion-takers, but the safe bet, in my opinion, would be the straightforward yet gorgeous star-neckline full- length black fishtailed dress that felt like Morticia Addams 2.0 fromThe Addams Family in look #12. Look #17's black silver star-studded skirt suit was urban and oddly professional. Look #24's steely silvery grey layered cas- cading ribbon jacket was incredible in its perfect craftsmanship statement coat to pair with a simple dress beneath. The finale look #45 was an ideal reflection of inspiration taken from per- haps a Gilded Era gown updated in solid black. A definite reach into the past brings history into the future’s formal occasions. Another thing to note for this season has to be the tremendous large tote bags. Fantastic structure and size for the person on the go who wants to schlep their life around in style. As Bill and Ted said, “I believe our adventure through time has taken a most se- rious turn,” and “it’s most excellent!” http://www.annakiki.com ANNAKIKI
