bitecatwalk SALVATORE FERRAGAMO N eutral in every way, the label's menswear designer, Guillaume Meilland, who designed this season's Spring-Summer collection, tried something new with a cohesive collection for both sexes. Overall, it was adorable; featuring the utmost in ideal Italian summer stables for one’s every warm-weathered wardrobe desires, save for, perhaps, one’s gym wear. However, one needs to appreciate that Meilland took on a significant challenge with this collection. Inspired by the 1977 film, That Obscure Object of Desire by Luis Buńuel, he attempted to synchronise two different interpretations of the same reference. In the film, the exact role is played by two different actresses. At a preview of the collection, the designer shared, “I picked up on the plurality of identities and roles which define women’s universes” and called his approach “a collage work.” He maintained two themes: the women’s line-up featured a great deal of variety and range, while the menswear was cohesive and stuck to Ferragamo’s formal tone and aesthetics. What impressed me with this collection's womenswear was how casually diverse it was in style and silhouettes and how it maintained total femininity in its classy, classic and elegant overall looks. The collection was again presented at Rotonda della Besana which lent its ancient stone floor as the perfect monotone runway for the collection's neutral colour palette. However, to speak of the clothing itself, you know how I love a great pair of wide-legged trousers. There was undoubtedly a plethora to choose from, as seen in looks #1, #26, #31, #42, #45 and #51, as well as a uniquely constructed ultra-deep-v cutout dress in look #2 that I want to wear solely to stroll through the open-air markets of Tuscany while deciding which bouquets of wildflowers to buy. Going back to my comment on the casual diversity of this season, I will say that the dresses, caftan, apron dresses, winding tops that gave a peek of bare skin below and flowy skirts, nothing were too fancy but entirely effortless. The men’s pieces followed this same theme of uncomplicated luxury, perfect for those days when one, you know, wanders in from their vineyard to take a trip on their yacht to Capri for lunch and limoncello.
