bitedesignerprofile When she was a child, Lorena drew pictures of glasses influenced by her visits to optical trade fairs with her mother. She graduated in market- ing at ESIC and has several courses and a Mas- ter’s in design, creative business and digital mar- keting. Nina Mûr was born out of the need to create collections for the family’s opticians busi- ness without the limitations of the industry and an alternative to mass production that would be flexible and adaptable to the client’s needs. Nina Mûr Eyewear blends the finest crafts- manship with technological precision to create unique and distinctive glasses that exude quali- ty and sensitivity. The soft and smooth textured materials make them unbelievably ergonomic and comfortable. They are on average 30% light- er than other materials with the same volume. Whether used for reading or sun, prescription glasses are perfect for high myopia, and the sun- glasses have a 100% UVA/UVB protection. The materials used include Finnish birchwood, the same wood used in the aeronautical indus- try. It comes from a responsibly managed forest in Finland that holds the Forest Stewardship Council certificate. Its natural properties make this component a light, highly flexible, durable material. Numerous aeroplanes have been built using this birchwood, including the famous twin-engined, shoulder-winged, multirole com- bat aircraft de Havilland DH.98 Mosquito intro- duced during World War II. Epoxy resins used in the naval industry are ex- ceptionally water-resistant and can withstand extreme temperatures, adding an extra quality level to Nina Mûr glasses. Zeiss lenses, endorsed by NASA, who recorded the Apollo mission in 1969 and Stanley Kubrick, who filmed his war drama Barry Lyndon with them in 1975, are the most prestigious lenses on the market thanks to their clarity, and sharpness and 100% UV pro- tection. The first photos of the moon were taken with Zeiss lenses. Born in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain, Helena Rohner is renowned for her jewellery, characterised by a playful use of materials. Sil- ver is combined with fine wood, precious stones, Murano glass or porcelain, with clean lines and simple forms. She searches for harmony and beauty in each piece which is subtle, organic and full of colour. Helena has worked with various world-renowned international brands beyond jewellery, such as Georg Jensen, Serax, Cerebel- la, Ferm Living and Nina Mûr. For Danish brand Georg Jensen, she added porcelain to steel to create a new way of giving warmth to the shiny, cold metal. Another Dan- ish brand, Kähler, saw the creative design of a USB as a wearable porcelain pendant called 'My Life' USB, which won a Red Dot Design Award. Ferm Living, also a Danish brand, had surpris- ingly weighty door knobs made from solid brass or stainless steel in ergonomic shapes of chan- terelle mushroom and lemon that caressed the hand.
