bitecatwalk P rada’s recent FW21 collection ‘Possible Feelings II’ created by its two new genius co-directors, Raf Simons and Miuccia Prada, offered a ray of hope. It marked a possible new beginning for the brand’s customers in redirecting the label’s goals a bit. “Optimism is mounting,” Prada stated at a small Q&A press conference. This being the duo’s second collection together, it showed how opposites can attract and can come together to form a surprising harmony overall. Transitioning from one to the other doesn’t nec - essarily have to be dramatically jarring, but could lend itself to something new and beautiful. There was a sense of unveiling to be done with this collection. We’re coming into a new era of how fashion will be a joyous and usable part of our lives again. Personally, I adore the idea behind this collection! It truly gave me hope that things are on the uptick in so many ways. Yes, the ensembles at first glance seemed a bit like layered hot-messes, but glamour and divine are all the same. The models them- selves appeared almost robotic. Walking around in no-nonsense platform boots in a variety of prints, patterns and solids, and carrying a new array of drool-worthy handbags with the classic inverted triangle logo, they all seemed very keen on getting from point A to B as efficiently as possible. Like other designers, Prada chose to forgo a live show and presented the collection in an odd abstract series of adjoining rooms set-up with alternating marble and fur floor and wall coverings in a range of colours from baby blue, Barbie pink, purple and white. Another example of playing with opposites attract? Perhaps! Layers of plush, soft faux furs were paired with Prada signature staples like their suit sets, knitwear and cocoon coats. They played with vivid sequinned and faux fur fabric and trimming details as well as adding newer styles like bomber jackets and patterned catsuits to the line-up to reiterate that basics and statement pieces can come together to form a new ‘normal’. As a whole, the collection was a wonderfully wel - comed vision of having faith in the future.
