The Bite Magazine - Autumn/Winter 2021 - Issue 30

bitecatwalk Calcaterra W hen I first saw Cal - caterra’s show this season, I was a bit confused… who is he dressing? Is it men, women or an androg- ynous person? Frankly, it took me three times watching it again to see the artistic direc - tion underneath. Born in 1973 in Milan, Daniele Calcaterra has never really left his Italian roots. He graduated from the Institute of Fashion and Design in Milan and then began working as a designer for some of the most well-known Italian manufac - turers. In 2006 he started his design studio and continued to collaborate and create with other major Italian brands. In 2014, he officially launched his line which was an apt rep- resentation of his 20-plus years in the business. Ever since, each season has shown growth in the brand’s popularity as one of the more contemporary and modern designs presently coming out of Italy. His style values clean and elegance. Uncomplicated by unnecessary adornments and frills, Calca - terra’s pieces are some of the nicest ‘basics’ one can possess in their wardrobe - timeless, effortless, easy and chic. That being said, one can see in his AW21 collection how he aims to dress not one specific sex, but anyone and everyone. There is no one desired size or shape, but rather, an emphasis on volume, relaxed fittings that still somehow manage to be remarkably tailored, and effort - less layering. An example of this can be seen in looks #9 and #13. The model’s body in each is covered from the neck down, (in #9, he’s added a lovely interpretation of a traditional Italian headscarf) in enveloping layers of warm, fine knits and wools, with nothing clinging to the body, yet blanketing it in comfort and style. https://dcalcaterra.com
