The Bite Magazine - Autumn/Winter 2021 - Issue 30

bitecatwalk P oetic, profoundly deep and introspective, the latest AW21 recorded show from Tod’s entitled ‘In A Moment’ while fetching, lacked lasting sparks. With a collection of 25 looks, it was another attempt from creative director, Walter Chiapponi to try and upgrade the brand’s longstanding nonchalant themed roots of style and Italian dressing to an elevated feminine fashion-forward collection for the label. Whilst I honestly do highly respect what Mr Chiapponi is attempting, I candidly did not feel that the clothes were necessarily feminine or progressive. My opinion of what I think being ladylike in style aside - because it is extremely fluid - the pieces, while interesting and some rather pretty, were a bit heavy-handed and somewhat awkward. The 50s-70s-esque glints of design could be seen in the A-line skirts and large button-down midi coats, flared ribbed pants, large ruffle collars and billowy blouses. It didn’t feel fitted or current, but patchy and mismatched, like someone getting dressed in a dark closet. However, going back to what the brand is known for, the leather bags, shoes and accessories were very on-point and impeccably crafted. www.tods.com/gb-en/home.html TOD'S
