The Bite Magazine - Autumn/Winter 2021 - Issue 30

bitecatwalk W e most def ’ be droppin’ it like It’s hot! Damn! Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr aka Snoop Dogg may be one of the greatest people ever. He’s the absolute definition of a Renaissance Man, so when he was asked by one of his big- gest fans and admirers, the brilliant Philipp Plein to collaborate on a digitised fashion show… yea, flipping magic happens peo- ple! Plein, who is known for his lavish and over-the-top perfor- mances (these men were meant to work together! Two peas in one fantastic-fashion-forward pod) decided to take things up a notch this season and do a digital online showcase for his latest collection. This recorded presentation was produced by artist-animator Antoni Tudisco, whom Plein met via Instagram, and was able to work with him on creating a fantastic music video featuring Snoop Dogg. The glorious results of when music and fashion meet has been made a reality. Complete with animated dancing metallic skeletons, gorillas, invisible models, and pop-locking beings comprised of some truly HYPE sneakers all grooving in front of an imagined rendering of Piazza del Duomo in Milan to Snoop’s ‘Drop It Like It’s Hot’ and you’ve got his online show in a nutshell. The clothing pieces themselves were fun, urban and well, fun! Plein was quoted by Luke Leitch in February 2021 for Vogue. com saying, “After this terrible period we are preparing for a new time. We are hoping that when this collection comes out we will have things under control again and that after a year when it’s been impossible, people will be ready to have fun again.” Something we all could use a huge dose of in our lives and ward- robes after these last several doom-ridden months. That being said, I especially loved how the collection included pieces that could cover every dressing situation. From glamour evening wear to HYPED tracksuits and casual knits, he has it covered. The complete Plein Toile du Jouy print in cerulean blue with hand-holding skeletons, naked pin-up girls and tigers are placed throughout the print on several ensembles and muscle cars! I would also kill for the rainbow tie-dyed coat in look #1 and the sequinned blazer in look #7, the monochromatic boucle fabric long tailored coat and matching ankle cropped pants in look #81, and finally, every handbag and shoe naturally. In conclusion, Plein again took the expected, gave it his ol’ Pleinian take and produced something whimsical and exciting! www.plein.com/gb/home
