Little Moons Ice Cream Jada Brookes has become hooked on Little Moons’ mochi ice cream that she first tried at an event after hearing people rave about it. bitedessert From Another World A family health crisis and the desire to fulfil a creative and more flexible career led Vivien Wong to set up the ice cream company Little Moons in 2010 with her brother, Howard. While growing up, the siblings would help at their parent’s bakery on weekends which Vivien continued to do whilst training to be a chartered accountant. However, after working at Barclays Capital, she realised something was missing and decided to start a business. Her father’s cancer diagnosis was also a factor in her decision. The siblings’ parents made traditional mochi at their bak- ery which was filled with red bean paste which Howard and Vivien substituted for ice cream when they set up their brand. Having always loved the texture of mochi, Vivien told Glamour Magazine, “When we tasted this combined with ice cream, we knew instantly that we needed to bring this to the UK. With our dad’s help, it was a labour of love, but we craft- ed the perfect ice cream mochi recipe.” Thus, Little Moons are delicious gelatinous Japanese dessert balls made with artisan ice cream wrapped in soft mochi dough. It was thanks to a TikTok video posted by a fan go- ing viral at the beginning of 2021 and generating over 300 million views that put Little Moons on the FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) map and virtually had everyone flocking to the supermarkets to buy their ice cream, a firm favourite with children, so I’m told. Little Moons can now be found at Asda, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s, Tesco, Waitrose and Ocado. Interestedly, the mochi balls are also available in 20 countries
